A unique experience for NSS Judokas in Tokyo, Japan
Ongoing discussions with one of the best Sports Universities for future training camps in Japan
Three Judokas from the National Sports School attended a 12 day training camp in Japan with some of the best young athletes in this sport at Heisei International University in Saitama close to Tokyo.
The National Sports School under the guidance of Head of School Mr. Robert Magro is being
proactive in training camps abroad. The NSS is giving the opportunity to all students in all sports and this scholastic year the number of students that attended training camps were very high.
This was the first training camp organized outside Europe and exactly in the country where Judo originated. In Japan, martial arts is a discipline where all children begin to experience it from a very young age in their respective school. This Sport remains very strong in Japan. Meanwhile, Judokas also had the opportunity to train at the Kodokan in Tokyo, which is actually the temple of this Sport. Students also visited several Judo schools and had the opportunity to train and meet world-class Judo athletes.
The team also scheduled a visit at the ambassador for Malta in Japan, Andre Spiteri, where he was excited to welcome the team at the embassy in Tokyo.
The National Sports School is in communication with Heisei University so that the relationship
between them remains active and not only Maltese athletes will achieve in Japan but also Japanese athletes will have the possibility to come to Malta for different opportunities.
This experience in Japan was unique for all the students who were part of this training camp. The training was of a very high level and the students learnt not only technique but also a number of Sports values including respect and integrity. Our student/athletes, Sephora, Oscar and Antonio were part of some really hard days where the training sessions included morning sessions which consisted of physical preparation while during the evening training, session consisted of three hours of Randoris (fights).
