Literary Evening 2024

This year, the 8th edition of the Literary evening, dedicated to ‘DISCOVERIES’, happened on Friday 26th January, 2024. The evening was a live performance in our school’s MPH accompanied with videos, which students who were unable to attend on the day, prepared from home.

This literary evening event was an opportunity to show that students at the National Sport school can do more than sports but they are also fond of acquiring communation skills and confidence on stage, interact with the audience, and research and talk about a vast array of topics.

This year’s theme explored various discoveries both local and abroad. The students’ works ranged from the discoveries of various scientists to discoveries in space. Of great honour to us all was the presence in the audience of a Maltese scientist, Ms. Christina Gatt whose research and discoveries in the medical field are helping numerous patients. The impact of human discoveries on the environment was discussed together with the discovery of the ‘Kantilena’ and the archeological discoveries in the Siggiewi church. Students wrote and read exceptional essays about the discovery of music, electricity, space and discovering hearing by a deaf-born boy. A highlight of the evening was the ‘who wants to be a millionaire?’ game when students used foreign languages including Italian, French, German and Spanish to highlight discoveries that happened across the ages, whilst interacting with the surprised audience. The comperes mentioned numerous discoveries, like the interesting discovery of chewing gum, anaesthetic, antibiotics, DNA and fossils amongst many others.

Again this year, the Literary evening event was a success. Students, parents and audience enjoyed the show. It was a fun and learning experience and yet another way of socialising. Our aim; that of involving students, and help them acquire oracy and communication skills, face an audience, talk in public, acquire self-esteem and grow into more confident student-athletes was accomplished. Well done to all the participating students and thank you to all the parents and guardians who were here to support them.

A particular thank you goes to the National Literacy Agency and Mr. David Muscat, who, every year, donate books to all participating students.
