Diplomats from French Embassy visit National Sport School

On Friday 28th January 2022, the Counsellor for Cooperation and Culture, Mme Marine Debliquis and the Press Counsellor, M Arnaud Mahot, both from the French Embassy, paid a courtesy visit to the National Sport School on the occasion of  French Language Day.

They were greeted by the Head of School Mr. Robert Magro, together with the senior leadership team, the sports management team and the teachers of French, Mrs Angele Vella Lauwers and Ms Marisa Vassallo Sciberras. Members of our staff who are of French nationality were also there to greet our guests.

The teaching staff and students enjoyed having the opportunity to discuss particular topics of interest and importance, not least a potential collaboration with sports schools in France.

Mme Debliquis was guided around the school and took time to speak with our student/athletes during the practice of their main sport. Mme Debliquis and M Mahot were later presented with a souvenir of their visit in the form of a commemorative plate by Mdina Glass.

Several activities were also organized to celebrate the French Language Day.  A morning school assembly was held online by the French department to give some general information about France and its culture.  French music was projected during the two breaks.  Cultural videos about France and French speaking countries were diffused on the school’s screens. Students also had the opportunity to taste the French croissant.  Moreover, during the French lessons, students enjoyed playing quizzes. Year 9 student, Faith Anouk Cassar was awarded first place at a French competition called “Faites la Fête” organised by the French Teachers’ Association (APFM).

The aim of these activities was also to encourage Year 8 students at NSS to choose French as an option subject.
