Year 9

The Selection Process for applicants who wish to enter Year 9 for scholastic year 2022/2023

This late entry point is for students who are currently in their second year at secondary and wish to join the National Sport School in Year 9.

Entry to the school is by application and under a pre-published set of terms and conditions.

At the Year 9 entry point there are up to six [6] places available. From these four [4] are allocated for applicants from football. The remaining two [2] places are reserved for the other sports disciplines.

Eligibility

  • Student-athlete will be born in the year 2009.
  • Student-athlete will have been recommended by his/her accredited national sports association as a talent and highly skilled young student-athlete who is considered to be amongst the very best of the talent pool available in the Maltese Islands.
  • Student-athlete will have been practising their sport with a club recognized and governed by the relevant accredited national sports associationfor not less than two [2] years from date of application.

Documentary Requirements to apply

Students must submit the following items to the Customer Care Office/One Stop Shop, Directorate for Educational Services in Floriana or to the Office of College Principal, Triq l-Ewropa, Victoria, Gozo in conjunction with the hard copy application form. Please note that all original documents must be produced upon submission to verify their authenticity.

  • A properly completed application form which is to be downloaded from the NSS website here.
  • Photocopy of all relevant Psycho Educational or Special Education Evaluation Reports (if applicable).
  • Two [2] passport size photographs (approximately 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm). Please write student’s name on the back of the photographs.
  • Photocopy of Student’s Birth Certificate.

Every applicant will be given an index number on receipt of application from  MFED.

Entry Criteria for scholastic year 2022/2023:

  • Sports Assessment: 60% of the overall weighting.
  • NSS based Examinations: 30% of the overall weighting. (A minimum threshold of 45% in any two subjects and 35% in one of the three core subjects: Maths, Maltese and English)
  • Interview: 10% of the overall weighting.

Pass mark for practical exams is 50%. Any applicant who does not obtain 50% in practical exam will be notified via email that he/she shall not continue the selection process. All practical exams shall be concluded by 27th May 2022 unless dictated otherwise due to unforeseen circumstances.

The results will be communicated to the parents or guardians of the students not more than five [5] working days after the final interview is conducted and will be published simultaneously at the Customer Care Office, Directorate for Educational Services in Floriana or at the Office of the College Principal, Triq l-Ewropa, Victoria, Gozo.

Applying for Entry to Year 9 for scholastic year 2022/2023 This late entry point is for students who are currently in their second year at secondary school and wish to join the National Sport School in Year 9. Application Process All applicants are required to complete an Application Form and participate in sports specific practical assessments. Those short-listed for the final selection process will be invited for an interview. . All application forms will be acknowledged and parents/guardians will receive a letter informing them if their child has been successful in gaining a selection trial. Please submit the following items to the Customer Care Office, Directorate for Educational Services in Floriana or Office of College Principal, Triq l-Ewropa, Victoria, Gozo, in conjunction with the hard copy application form. Criteria for Application The following criteria need to be met in order for students to be eligible for the National Sport School:

  • Candidates need to be nominated by an accredited national sports association. They need to be identified as being among the most promising in their area of sport on a national level.
  • Candidates must be born as from 1stJanuary 2009 and must be participating in a youth scheme organised by an accredited national sports association prior to 1st March 2020.
  • Short-listed applicants after sports assessment must sit for examinations in Mathematics, English and Maltese set by the EAU.
