Applying for Entry – Year 7 (Form 1)

This Entry Point is for pupils who are currently in their final year of the Primary School and wish to join the National Sport School in their first year of secondary school.

Application Process

All applicants are required to complete an Application Form and participate in sports specific practical assessments. Further information is available on this website and can be downloaded in portable document format (PDF)  2019 Dħul fl-Iskola Nazzjonali tal-Isport – Is-7 Sena/ 2019 Entry to the National Sport School – Year 7. All application forms will be acknowledged and parents/guardians will receive a letter informing them whether their child has been successful in gaining a selection trial.

Please submit the following items to the Customer Care Office, Directorate for Educational Services in Floriana in conjunction with the hard copy application form. Please note that all original documents must be produced upon submission to verify their authenticity.

  • Any current and past school reports, testimonials and recommendations* (only optional – latest two years records would be enough).
  • Photocopy of all relevant Psycho-Educational or Special Education Evaluation Reports* (if applicable).
  • 2 passport size photographs (approximately 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm). Please write student’s name on the back of the photographs.
  • Student’s Birth Certificate.

Criteria for Application

The following criteria need to be met in order for students to be eligible for application to the National Sport School:

  • Candidates need to be nominated by an accredited national sports association. They need to be identified as being among the most talented in their area of sport on a national level.
  • Candidates must be born as from 1st January 2008 and must be participating in a youth scheme organised by an accredited national sports association prior to 1st March 2018.
  • Short-listed applicants after sports assessment must sit for the End of Primary National Benchmark Exams.

NSS Application Form – Year 7/Form 1 [2019-2020]

Applying for Entry to Year 9 (Form 3)

This late entry point is for students who are currently in their second year at secondary school and wish to join the National Sport School in Year 9 (Form 3). There are a very limited number of places available at this entry point. 

Application Process

All applicants are required to complete an Application Form and participate in sports specific practical assessments. Those short-listed for the final selection process will be invited for an interview. Further information is detailed within the Application Form which is available for download in portable document format (PDF)- 2019-Dħul-fl-Iskola-Nazzjonali-tal-Isport-Year-92019 Entry to the National Sport School Year 9.

All application forms will be acknowledged and parents/guardians will receive a letter informing them if their child has been successful in gaining a selection trial. Please submit the following items to the Customer Care Office, Directorate for Educational Services in Floriana or the Education Office, Fortunato Mizzi Street, Victoria, Gozo, in conjunction with the hard copy application form. Please note that all original documents must be produced upon submission to verify their authenticity.

  • Current and previous scholastic year Mid-Yearly and Annual school reports.
  • Photocopy of all relevant Psycho-Educational or Special Education Evaluation Reports* (if applicable).
  • 2 passport size photographs (approximately 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm). Please write student’s name on the back of the photographs.
  • Student’s Birth Certificate.

Criteria for Application

  • Candidates must be born as from 1st January 2006 and must be participating in a youth scheme organised by an accredited national sports association prior to 1st March 2017.
  • Short-listed applicants after sports assessment must sit for examinations in Mathematics, English and Maltese.
